Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury with her husband Sridhar Chowdhury and Khammam Collector Shashibhushan Kumar on board one of the two speed boats on Saturday. PALAIR (Khammam dist): Union Minister of State for Woman and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said a new airport would come up the coal town of Kothagudem soon and it would also offer facilities, though in a small way, for handling air cargo operations. She inaugurated two speed boats introduced at a cost of Rs 5 lakhs at the Palair balancing reservoir on Saturday. Speaking to the media persons on the occasion, she said the issued was discussion with the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel, whom she met in Hyderabad at the inauguration of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury said the handling of cargo facilities in Kothagudem would help benefit the peasant community opting for value addition to their produce. The formalities for identification of land required for the new airport were completed by the administration. Once the airport came up the district would be one of the favourite destinations for the tourist as well. She emphasized the need for more awareness on tourism development. Moves were on for development of infrastructure as part of the tourism development plans in the district, she said. Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury urged the farmers to go in for more of food grain crops instead of subabul and eucalyptus, The operation of the speed boats was entrusted to local youths who had organized themselves as Gangamata youth group. She wanted the stalls to be set up near the Palair park to be entrusted to the women self help groups. She thanked UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the relief package announced for the farmers in the country.
