A lot on agenda for Delhi budget session

The focus likely to be on various problems afflicting the Capital

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh has allowed five short duration discussion on various serious problems afflicting the city and three private members resolution during the Budget Session of the Delhi Assembly that begins with the Lieutenant-Governor’s address on Monday. The Delhi Budget 2008-09 will be presented on March 24 by the Finance Minister and after a discussion the House will vote on it on March 27.

This being the first session of the year, the Lieutenant-Governor will address the House at 11 a.m. on Monday. The debate on the Motion of Thanks for the L-G’s address will begin on Tuesday.

Notices received

According to the Speaker, over 600 notices of questions have been received so far for the session. With March 19 being the last date for submission, more are expected to be received.

While no new government Bills have been received by the Assembly Secretariat so far, the Speaker said two pending Bills – the IIIT Delhi Bill, 2007, and the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Bill, 2007 – will be listed for passage during the session. Seven reports of House committees would also be presented.

As for the short duration discussions, Mr. Singh said while one of them would be on the sealing problem, the others would be on water crisis, privatisation of electricity and problems created, problems of unauthorised colonies and law and order.
