TDP, BJP stage walkout

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: TDP and BJP members staged a walkout in the Assembly on Saturday protesting against what they called “lack of commitment” on the part of the State government to implement the Pranahita - Chevella link project.

The TDP described as publicity stunt the full page advertisements issued in newspapers by the government to claim credit for the project ahead of elections. In reality, there was hardly any progress in the project, TDP deputy leader T. Devender Goud said while leading the walkout by his party members during question hour. The BJP member G. Kishan Reddy also walked out for lack of budgetary provision and delay in implementation of the project. Mr. Goud criticised the government for preparing plans to take up the canal work ahead of the barrage with a view to earn commission from contractors. The TDP leader said the government had deliberately wasted three years in grounding the project.
