Nandamuri Harikrishna HYDERABAD: It was celebration time in the Congress party as the five candidates for the Rajya Sabha election, including Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s close confidante K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, filed their nominations papers on Saturday. The party leaders were in cheerful mood as for the first time after long gap, no outsider was nominated from the State. This is also the fifth consecutive time that there will be no contest as only six nominations were filed for the six vacancies. The day saw Dr. Ramachandra Rao hogging the limelight. Jubilant scenes were witnessed as party leaders vied with each other to greet Dr. Ramachandra Rao in the Assembly as well at Gandhi Bhavan. In the presence of the Chief Minister, the Congress nominees -- T. Subbarami Reddy, Nandi Yellaiah, Mohd Ali Khan, Ramachandra Rao and T. Ratna Bai -- submitted their papers to the Legislature Secretary and Returning officer K. Tuljanand Singh. Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy proposed the name of Dr. Ramachandra Rao. Ironically, none of the Congress allies were present when the nominations were filed. A large number of APCC leaders, Ministers and legislators were present. In TDP campWhile the Congress candidates were seen mingling with the party cadres and leaders, it was complete contrast in the TDP camp. The filing of nomination by Nandamuri Harikrishna, son of late N. T. Rama Rao, had the element of glamour as film stars accompanied him. Leading lights of the tinsel world, Raghavendra Rao, Ashwin Dutt, Parchuri Gopalakrishna and others greeted him. Before coming to the Assembly, Mr. Harikrishna paid a visit to the NTR Trust Bhavan, where he met party president N. Chandarbabu Naidu and other leaders. On his way to the Assembly, Mr. Harikrishna paid floral tributes to his father at NTR Ghat. In the Assembly, Mr. Harikrishna submitted two sets of nomination papers.
