86 panchayats to get basic amenities in Nagapattinam

Infrastructure facilities will be provided to primary and middle schools
NAGAPATTINAM: The State government has allocated Rs.11 crore as subsidy for 2008-09 for providing basic amenities to 86 panchayats in the district under Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, Collector Tenkasi S. Jawahar has said.
Inaugurating a training programme here for the 86 panchayat presidents on the implementation of development works, including creation of ponds, desilting of tanks, provision of library, drinking water supply, cement roads and street lights under the scheme, the Collector on Friday said basic amenities were being provided to all 434 village panchayats in the district in a phased manner since 2006 and would be completed in 2011.
The Collector said basic amenities had already been provided to 82 panchayats by implementing 906 works at a cost of Rs.14.28 crore in 2006-07 and 727 works in 84 panchayats at a cost of Rs.5.29 crore.
Mr. Jawahar said infrastructure facilities would be provided to 142 panchayat union primary and 53 panchayat union middle schools at a cost of Rs.1.80 crore.
Under the Tamil Nadu Rural Employment Guarantee scheme, each family in the rural areas would be provided employment for a minimum period of 100 days per annum and each worker would get a minimum wage of Rs.80 per day.
