‘Improve quality of education system to match industry requirements’

SALEM: The Government, academia and industry should work together to improve the quality of the education system in the country to match the industry requirements, Bangalore Software Technology Parks of India Director J. Parthasarathy has said.

The quality in the system is not up to the mark that is needed by the industry.

A report says that only 30 per cent of the students produced by the educational institutions are suitable for the Information Technology industry, he pointed out while addressing a gathering of students at the annual day of Sona College of Technology here on Friday.

All the people should make efforts to keep the brand that was created for India in the world by producing talented younger generation, he stressed.

The total number of personnel employed in the IT and IT Enabled Services sectors is expected to touch 1.8 million in the current fiscal.

The sectors require a large number of personnel in the coming years. With the Indian economy growing fast, the present younger generation has a plethora of opportunities in various sectors including IT. The students should have commitment, conviction and consistency to successfully overcome the challenges of the future, he said.

Mr. Parathasarathy assured that he would extend help put Salem in the industrial map of the country.

Cypress Semiconductor Technology Director Thirukumar Vethanayagam highlighted the importance of time management and continuous learning.

He asked the students to define their career path very clearly and keep updating their knowledge. Students were given prizes and certificates for their best performance in the academic and extracurricular activities.

College Chairman C. Valliappa, Secretary A. Dhirajlal and Principal P. Govindarajan spoke.
