2 students write SSLC exam after 6 p.m.
Staff Reporter
KOLLAM: Two students, Remya Rajan and Jincy Monachan, from the Seventh Day Adventist High School at Sadanandapuram near Kottarakara, who were permitted by a Division Bench of the High Court to appear for Saturday’s SSLC examination after 6 p.m., arrived at the office of the school Principal at 1.30 p.m. as directed by the court.
They waited in the Principal’s room in the presence of Kottarakara District Education Officer (DEO) Kunju Pillai and two observers. The parents of the two students were also present in the room. As per the directives of the Director of Public Instruction, police security was provided at the school and the room where the two students were waiting.
The two students were not permitted to go out till the time they went to write the examination.
They were also not allowed to read any books or talk with anyone till that time. The two students had moved the court stating that since they belonged to the Seventh Day Adventist sect of Christianity, Saturday was observed as Sabbath.
Their religion forbids them from attending any kind of work till 6 p.m. It was on this ground that the court permitted them to write the examination after 6 p.m. However, five other students from the same sect who are also students of the same school appeared for the examination at 1.30 p.m.
