Rain in southern districts

Welcome relief: Water-logged road in Tuticorin on Saturday.
TIRUNELVELI: Widespread intermittent drizzle in various parts of the district on Saturday, right from the morning, brought some relief from a scorching summer to the residents.
Nearly 20,000 plantain saplings were uprooted in a gale at Pattamadai. Twelve goats were struck dead by lightning at Keezha Omanallur.
Rainfall in the district (in mm): Sivagiri 27.20; Radhapuram 23; Manimuthar Dam 21.20; Papanasam Upper Dam 20; Sankarankovil 15.30; Shencottah 13; Ambasamudram 10; Palayamkottai 7; Servalar Dam and Papanasam Lower Dam 4 each; Tenkasi 3.30; Tirunelveli 1.80; Nanguneri 1.40; and Alangulam 1.
Kanyakumari
Heavy rain continued to lash various parts of Kanyakumari district for the second day on Saturday. Krishnankovil, Putheri, Women’s Christian College Road and Vadaseery areas were inundated with rainwater. As the Kothayar river was flooded with rainwater, there was heavy flow in Thirparappu falls.
Karunakaran (45) of Suchindrum was electrocuted when he came into contact with live wire. The maximum rainfall of 51 mm was recorded at Boothapandi followed by 46.5 in Nagercoil, 24.5 in Puthen Dam, 24.2 in Perunchani, 22 in Chittar II, 20 in Chittar I, 14 in Surulode and 5.2 Kottaram.

There was moderate rain in many parts of the district in brief spells on Saturday.
