JD(U) plans stir for regularisation of unauthorised structures

‘Centre has failed to tackle farmers’ problems’

BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (United) has decided to launch a struggle seeking possession certificates for slum-dwellers, regularisation of unauthorised structures on government land by poor people and regularisation of unauthorised cultivation of government land by small farmers.

Announcing this at a meeting of leaders from slums organised by the party to raise awareness among them about their rights, party’s State unit president B. Somashekar urged those residing in unauthorised structures in urban areas not to move away.

Mr. Somashekar, who was Revenue Minister in the J.H. Patel Ministry, said that he had changed the rules under Section 94 of the Land Grant Act to provide for regularisation of unauthorised structures on government land and to extend the deadline for regularisation of unauthorised cultivation. Though the Patel Government came out with a notification in this regard, successive governments did not implement the regularisation scheme, he alleged. Senior leader of the party Michael Fernandes the Centre had failed to tackle the issues which forced farmers to go to moneylenders.
