Thousands take out vehicle rally from Kangeyam to Tirupur

TIRUPUR: ‘Kongu Community Rights Rally’, in which nearly 2,000 vehicles rallied from Kangeyam to Tirupur was flagged off at Nallur on the eve of Kovai Chezhiyan’s eighth death anniversary. Best Ramasamy, president of Kongu Velala Gounder Peravai (KVGP) flagged off the rally .
KVGP on Friday urged the Central and State Government to implement the marine discharge project taking the treated textile effluents into the sea from Erode, Tirupur and Karur region.
A resolution was passed at the end of the rally.
Electricity supply
The peravai demanded early release of grants from the Government for setting up of reverse osmosis plants to ensure zero liquid discharge.
It also asked the State Government to extend electricity supply to effluent recycling plants in Tirupur besides seeking a scheme for disposing of the solid waste.
The KVGP demanded the Government to allow tapping of toddy.
It wanted all the shandys to be made as Uzhavar Santhais to which the Government extend all the help.
Support price
In order to protect the agriculture sector, it wanted the Government to fix minimum support price to all the farm produce and extension of uninterrupted electricity supply.
The peravai appealed to the Government to implement the Avanashi-Athikadavu ground water recharge project.
In order to encourage sugarcane growers the Government should set up bio-diesel units in sugarcane growing areas.
Reservation
The KVGP asked the Government to extend reservation based on the population of each caste.
It urged the Government to include Kondu Velalar community in the list of Most Backward Communities.
It wanted supply of water at free of cost to villages.
The forum also sought an end to the alleged misuse of the Prevention of SCs and STs Atrocities Act in the State.
