Fear of poor performance in examination leads youth to suicide
|
HYDERABAD: Worried over his performance during the ongoing mid-term examinations, a degree student ended his life by jumping before a running train at Vidyanagar on Saturday, the police said.
Amarjit Sharma was a second year B.Sc. student of the Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, DD Colony. Hailing from Patna in Bihar, he used to reside in the hostel on the institute’s campus.
He set out from the hostel around 6.40 a.m. for morning walk. Where he went later is not yet known, but around 10 a.m. he jumped before the Guntur-Secunderabad passenger train. Death was instant for Sharma.
Sharma secured nearly 60 percentage of marks in his exams in first year. For some reason, he was worried about his performance in the second year. “His classmates told us that of late he appeared to be dejected thinking over how he would fare in the exams,” the Kachiguda railway police Inspector P. Santosh Kumar said.
During holidays in December, he went to his home town where his father Kishore Sharma, an ex-serviceman, got him examined by a doctor and he underwent treatment for depressionbefore returning to city.
Police registered a case of suspicious death under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code.
Hangs himself
An eighth standard student committed suicide by hanging himself at his house at New Mirjalguda in Malkajgiri on Friday. D. Ravinder, 13, ended his life after his father Mohan Rao allegedly reprimanded him for not preparing for the examinations. The boy was a student of Bhasyam School in Malkajgiri, according to police.
