Charge against HSL

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: All the cranes, except two new ones, being used in Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), are old and unfit for service, alleged I. Janardhana Rao, a former employee of HSL, whose son had died when a crane overturned in the yard on Feb. 13. In a letter to the CP, he noted that it was not an accident that had taken the life of his son I. Anil Kumar on the fateful day but negligence on the part of the HSL administration. He said that the crane had already fallen twice to the ground but no one had looked into the matter. He alleged that another operator was injured when another crane had fallen to the ground this month. The matter was, however, hushed up, he alleged. He felt that a load test should be carried out on all the cranes.
