AUCPE rallies to down APFC

Karaikudi: Alagappa University College of Physical Education defeated Amaravathi Pudur Football Club 3-2 in the Sivagangai District Football Association ‘A’ division league at Karaikudi on Saturday.

Down by two first half goals, AUCPEducation rallied splendidly in the second session to score three goals in the space of 11 minutes.

Amaravathi Pudur Club went into the lead with a third-minute strike by Velu and Ramesh scored in the eighth minute to enhance the lead.

Jeyabal reduced the margin for AUCPE in the 47th minute, while Gunasekaran found the equaliser in the 55th minute. In the 58th minute came the all-important goal through Karthick.

Goalless draw

Alagar Memorial Football Club was held to a goalless draw by G.S. Football Club in the Dindigul District Football Association ‘B’ division league at Dindigul on Saturday.

Kalugumalai VC advances

Kalugumalai Volleyball Club entered the quarterfinals of the third annual Southern Districts prize money Open volleyball tournament at Kovilpatti on Saturday.

The results: Pre-quarterfinals: Kalugumalai VC bt host Friends VC 29-27, 25-21. Earlier results: Kalugumalai VC bt Free Birds ‘B’ 22-25, 25-12, 25-8; Friends Club bt Free Birds ‘A’ 25-15, 25-14.

Brace by Siva

Siva netted a brace as Students FC defeated P&T Durai MFC 3-0 in the Tiruchi DFA super division football league in Tiruchi. Hari was the other scorer. Meanwhile, Jamal Mohammed College and YMCA drew goalless.

Match drawn

PSG Sports Club and Asoka FC played out a 1-1 draw in the CDFA ‘A’ division football league at the PSG Tech grounds in Coimbatore on Saturday. Nelson struck for PSG in the 34th minute, while Karthick scored the equaliser in the 54th.
