Consumer Rights Protection Day held

ANANTAPUR: Joint Collector T. Chiranjeevulu has urged consumers to improve their awareness on different services and products before they buy.

Speaking at the World Consumer Rights Protection Day here on Saturday evening, he said traders are resorting to different methods to deceive and cheat consumers to make easy profits. Irrespective of the existence of several laws to protect the rights of the consumers they were being cheated by the traders mainly due to lack of awareness among the consumers, he said.

He suggested consumers to have basic awareness on consumer rights. Awareness will play a greater role than the laws in preventing cheating by traders, he felt.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha felt that consumer rights should be included in the syllabus of school and college education. Member of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Lalitha Prabhakar said Anantapur residents have won first prize in Telugu essay writing and second prize in English essay writing competitions conducted by the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum at the State-level.

Later, the ZP Chairperson presented the prizes to K.M. Nazeema and M. Kavitha, who won the essay writing competitions.

District Manager of Civil Supplies Ramachandra Murthy, District Supplies Officer Sambasiva Rao, Municipal Commissioner B. Nagabhushanam, president of District Consumer Awareness Cell Ravindranath Reddy and others participated.
