Stir against Coke, Pepsi

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Anti-Pepsi Action Council will stage a dharna before the Secretariat on March 18 demanding closure of the Pepsi factory in Palakkad.

The council leaders recalled that the apex court had allowed the firm to function despite complaints of it “overexploiting water and causing pollution.”

A study by the Central and State groundwater forums had brought out shocking statistics on these two facets, they said.

Staff Reporter writes from Palakkad: A meeting of the Anti-Coca Cola Agitation Solidarity Committee held at Plachimada on Sunday decided to intensify agitation against the soft drink giant from April 22. The meeting demanded compensation for those affected by the operations of the firm, like depleting the groundwater and polluting the area, affecting its irrigation and drinking water sources.
