This Day That Age
About four thousand farmers from all over India on March 15 heard the Prime Minister Mr. Nehru reiterate his plea for greater production of foodgrains and effective control of the growth of population. Mr. Nehru, who was inaugurating the Fourth National Convention of Farmers sponsored by the Bharat Krishak Samaj, said that at this stage of national reconstruction, food and population were two “vital problems” and “these problems must be solved with all urgency if we really wish our country to progress.” He said “It is not enough to just become self-sufficient in food. We must produce surplus so that we can meet the unforeseen eventualities like famine, flood and drought and also export our foodgrains abroad.”
