The All India Council for Secondary Education has recommended the setting up of a central multipurpose school in each State which should provide several courses so that the various aspects of the multipurpose school scheme can be implemented and may serve the other institutions offering certain other diversified courses. The recommendations were made at a meeting of the Council held in New Delhi on March 15 with Mr. K.G. Saiyidain, Educational Adviser, Government of India, in the chair. It also considered the programme of seminars and follow-up workshops. The Council was of the view that steps should be taken to utilise the seminars for a purposeful and serious study of the problems connected with high and higher secondary schools with particular reference to the improvement of efficiency of instruction. Members expressed their views on the problems which individual States were facing in this matter.
