Sethu Institute enters final

Kovilpatti: Defending champion Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti stormed into the final of the third annual Southern Districts prize money open volleyball tournament organised by Friends Volleyball Club defeating Adithanar College, Tiruchendur 24-26, 25-18, 25-13 here on Sunday.

Sethu Institute will meet St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai in the final which beat C.K. Jewellry, Tuticorin 25-15, 25-19 in the other semifinal.

Quarterfinals: Adithanar College, Thiruchendur bt Kalasalingam University 25-20, 26-28, 25-22; St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai bt Ayya Nadar Janakiammal College, Sivakasi 23-25, 27-25, 25-12; Sethu Institute of Tech. w.o. Kalugumalai VC; C.K. Jewellry, Tuticorin w.o. Sawyarpuram Weldon Club.

Earlier result: Kalasalingam University bt Paranthapuli VC 25-22, 25-17.

Easy for Muneeswara

Muneeswara Football Club, Manachai registered a 3-2 win over Nehru Youth Football Club, Kottaiyur in a well-fought and exciting match in the Sivagangai District Football Association ‘A’ division league at Karaikudi on Sunday.

All the five goals came in the first session itself. Muneeswara Club took the lead with a 12th minute goal by Jegadeesh Kumar. But Nehru Club equalised in the 18th minute with a goal by Ravichandran and led with a 25th minute strike by Saravanan.

However, the lead was short-lived as Periavazhuthi equalised in the 34th minute and the match winner came in the 40th minute through Solai.

Matches cancelled

All the matches in the Canara Bank-Madurai District Cricket Association league at Madurai on Sunday were cancelled due to rain.
