BERHAMPUR: Preparations have begun for the annual Chaitra festival at the Tara Tarini hill shrine in Ganjam district of Orissa. More than ten lakh devotees from Orissa and outside visit this hill shrine during the four Tuesdays in the Hindu month of Chaitra, which starts in March. The officials of the district administration, Tara Tarini Development Board (TTDB) and other departments held a meeting to discuss the finer details of planning for the smooth conduct of the festival. The newly installed rope way to the hill top would be the greatest attraction for the visitors to this hill shrine this year. But according to the secretary of the TTDB, a large number of devout devotees would still prefer to climb the 999 steep steps to the top of the hill as they consider it to be a penance. The steps have been repaired and their guard walls have also been strengthened. The ghat road to the top of the hill has also been widened with better guard walls.
