Familiarisation move: Officials briefing Lieutenant Governor Bhopinder Singh on the source of water to the Ousteri Lake on Sunday. — PUDUCHERRY: A day after he took an additional charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Bhopinder Singh on Sunday went around the town and the suburban areas. He began his tour by going around the boulevard area. He made a brief stopover at the Gandhi Tidal, before visiting the coastal village of Veerampattinam. Mr. Singh visited the new settlement for the tsunami-affected fishermen constructed by the Maharashtra government under the tsunami rehabilitation programme taken up by the territorial administration. He then inspected the cyclone shelter-cum-community hall constructed at Veerampattinam utilising funds from the MP’s Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme. Mr. Singh, later, visited the Ousteri Lake where he was briefed by the officials about the source of water. The officials also showed him a sketch of the lake and the adjoining catchment regions. “The programme was arranged to give him a general feeling of the region and its landmarks. In the boulevard, he was taken around the French settlement and the Bharathi Park,” a senior official said. Mr. Singh left for Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the evening.
