Henry D’Souza is Bellary Bishop

BANGALORE: Fr. Henry D’Souza of the clergy of Mangalore Diocese has been appointed Bishop of Bellary by Pope Benedict XVI. A release issued here on Sunday by Archbishop Bernard Moraes, said the appointment was made public in Rome on Saturday.

The Diocese of Bellary comprises Bellary, Raichur and Koppal districts. Fr. D’Souza (59) is now executive secretary for social communications of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of India.

He is a native of Kinigoli in Udupi district, and was ordained priest in 1976 for the Mangalore Diocese. He had served in St. Peter’s Church at Barkur and at Mangala Jyothi as assistant director. Later, he became director of the Canara Communication Centre and worked as secretary of the Regional Communication Commission for Karnataka.
