Change of syllabus

The APSCHE is contemplating change of syllabus at the undergraduate level from the next academic year with the aim of making students employable in industries (The Hindu 29/02). Though the move is laudable, it should not be done in haste. Many colleges still do not have well equipped laboratories and funds are required to refurbish them suitably. This apart, lecturers are to be properly trained and all this takes time. First and foremost the actual needs of the industries should assessed as their needs also keep changing from time to time. Participation of industries at all levels is very vital to this plan. So all this means a long term project. As a short term measure graduates selected on merit be given training by the government as per the needs of the industries in the State.

Dreadful power cuts

Power Minister assured the people of the State last February that there would be no power cuts during this summer. Quite contrary to this assurance the nightmare began for the people of Guntakal. There was a galore of announced and unannounced power cuts since four weeks. The public do not know whether it is due to fall in production, malfunctioning of system or defective management.

The authorities are requested to make an earnest study of the problem and rectify the system as early as possible for the sake of the general public.

Check hoarding

This refers to the news report ‘YSR orders raids to rein in prices’ (The Hindu 18/02). The decision is welcome but should have been taken much earlier. It is sad to note that large scale hoarding of essential commodities is taking place even in drought-prone districts of Anantapur and Kurnool.
