Civil Judge Senior Division Court premises inaugurated at Arkalgud

Decentralising justice delivery: Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph coming out of the Civil Judge (Senior Division) Court building in Arkalgud, Hassan, after inaugurating it.

HASSAN: Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph has said that corruption and crime are on the increase despite people being aware of what is right and wrong.

Mr. Joseph was addressing a gathering at Arkalgud after inaugurating the Civil Judge Senior Division Court building on Sunday. The building has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 2 crore.

He said the judiciary was not just an institution of judges, or even lawyers, but was meant for the people. “It is a forum provided by the Constitution to settle disputes,” he added. He advised people to settle disputes in the courts and not take law into their hands. Peace and tranquillity were of paramount importance, he added.

Justice K.L Manjunath said this court had been sanctioned to ensure speedy disposal of cases.

He expressed regret that in some land acquisition cases, farmers had not received compensation even after 15 years.

He told advocates to conduct legal assistance camps in areas where farmers’ lands had been acquired for various projects.
