Departments yet to clear power bill arrears

Belgaum: The electricity bill arrears from government installations in the Belgaum Circle of Hubli Electricity Supply Company (HESCOM) accounts for Rs. 223.53 lakh as on February 29, 2008.

Official sources in HESCOM told The Hindu here on Saturday that payment was due from as many as 237 installations in various government departments in four divisions of Belgaum, Bailhongal, Chikodi and Ghataprabha.

An official in the Accounts Department of HESCOM said that the arrears was highest in Ghataprabha division (Rs. 109.05 lakh), followed by Bailhongal division (Rs. 89.11 lakh), Chikodi (Rs. 18.89 lakh) and in Belgaum division Rs. 6.71 lakh. Sources said the arrears from these government installations was Rs. 224.35 lakh as on January 8. It had come down to Rs. 223.53 lakh by the end of February.
