KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge welcoming the former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash into the party, in Bangalore on Sunday. AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, Prithviraj Chavan, is with them. Bangalore: The former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash and several former legislators of the Janata Dal (Secular), including the former Minister, H.S. Mahadev Prasad, were on Sunday formally inducted into the Congress in the presence of Prithiviraj Chavan, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, and president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) M. Mallikarjuna Kharge. Mr. Prakash and his associates were enrolled as members of the Congress at a programme at the party office about a week ago. Several senior State Congress leaders, including the former Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, greeted Mr. Prakash and his followers at the party office. Thereafter, all of them left by bus to Mysore to participate in the Janandolana programme. Nearly 20 legislators of the Janata Dal (S), including several members of the Legislative Council, joined the Congress along with Mr. Prakash. All of them had earlier called on the AICC president Sonia Gandhi, who has also been invited to address a farmers’ rally at Hospet in Bellary district. Mr. Prakash hails from the district. Mr. Prakash told The Hindu that several zilla panchayat members and municipal councillors from across the State were also inducted into the Congress on Sunday. They included, Shylaja, president of the Chamarajanagar Zilla Panchayat and 14 councillors of the Harapanahalli city municipal council.
