ON INSPECTION: BJP cadres, led by former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, crossing into Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
Hogenakkal: Tension prevailed at Hogenakkal on Sunday when cadres of the Bharatiya Janata Party, led by former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and former minister K.S. Eswarappa, crossed into Tamil Nadu in coracles and inspected the disputed area.
Talking to reporters at Manalthittu near here, Mr. Yeddyurappa accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre for meting out step motherly treatment towards Karnataka.
The Union government was treating Tamil Nadu better, while Karnataka was given a ‘raw deal”, he alleged. The governments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka should not take up any development projects in the island area in Hogenakkal until the joint survey was completed.
They should bear the expenses of the survey, which worked out to Rs.600 crore.
Mr. Yeddyurappa criticised the Tamil Nadu government for not bringing the project to the notice of the Union and Karnataka governments when the matter was pending before the Supreme Court.
He urged the Tamil Nadu Government to drop the proposed drinking water project at Hogenakkal.
