Mangled metal: Rescue workers trying to extricate the bodies from the car that was involved in an accident on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway in Shiggaon taluk of Haveri district on Sunday. HUBLI: Six persons, including a three-year-old boy, were killed on the spot when their car rammed a stationary tanker on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway near Shakar Cross in Shiggaon taluk of Haveri district on Sunday. The police gave the names of the victims as Gangadhar Chandrakanth Nadavatti (32), his wife Jyoti (28), their son Aarya, Gangadhar’s aunts Vimala (42) and Vasanti (40) and a relative Shilpa (18). According to the police, Gangadhar was employed with Focus Software Company in Bangalore. The police said that Mr. Gangadhar and his family were returning to Bangalore after attending his brother Santosh’s wedding reception in Hubli. Mr. Santosh’s marriage was held in Bangalore on March 10 and the reception was on Saturday. The accident occurred around 7.15 a.m. when Mr. Gangadhar, who was at the wheel, probably lost control of the vehicle and rammed the tanker, which was parked by the roadside. Due to the impact of the collision, the car was crushed and the police had to struggle to extricate the bodies from the vehicle. Haveri Superintendent of Police Nanjundaswamy and Additional Superintendent of Police K. Manjunath visited the spot. A case has been registered. According to the police, the tanker was parked by the roadside as there was a dhaba close by.
