‘Ultimate techies’ bag job offers from Cognizant

Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: Seven engineering students got job offers from Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) at TransITion ’08, a technology forum, organised at the PSG College of Technology on Saturday.

The students got the offers for topping at the forum organised by CTS. Over 700 students from 20 engineering colleges in and around Coimbatore displayed their technical and academic prowess during the day long programme, which included quiz, paper presentation, and robotics contests, besides ‘Ultimate Techie’ – an event that tested students in different engineering disciplines. Other than the job offers, the toppers also took away gift vouchers and iPods.

Inaugurating the forum, C.R. Swaminathan, Chief Executive of PSG institutions, said the country had more than 1,500 engineering colleges and another 1,000 were awaiting approval for the coming year.

Anna University, Coimbatore, Vice-Chancellor, R. Radhakrishnan, urged the students to look for challenging problems in and around their own environment. Recalling some of the teaching-learning innovations he was proposing to introduce, Mr. Radhakrishnan said 20 marks out of the 50 marks set apart for internal assessment would go for projects and innovative solutions brought out by students. Examinations would be gradually digitised.

Experts told students not to look for support systems to create entrepreneurship or innovation opportunities.

They themselves should look for challenges and opportunities, besides the competition ecosystem to come up with their own versions of innovation.

These could be commercialised when business opportunities came up, they added.

Coimbatore Centre Head and vice-president of CTS Vishnu Potty and Gopikrishnan Gaddam, Head of India Campus Recruitments, Cognizant, gave away the prizes and job offers to the toppers.

S.K. Sundararaman, Executive Director, Bannari Amman Spinning Mills, B. Soundararajan, Managing Director, Suguna Poultry and Ashok Bakthavathsalam, Managing Director, KGiSL, spoke.
