Bangalore: The recent attack on the residence of Karnataka CPI(M) secretary V.J.K. Nair is an indicator of what the future of politics will be if the Bharatiya Janata Party is voted to power, according to CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat.Ms. Karat was speaking to presspersons after visiting Mr. Nair’s house here on Saturday. She said the sangh parivar politics showed “no civilised norms of behaviour” and the top leaders of the BJP and the RSS even justified the attack. The attack was condemned widely by all, cutting across party barriers, and the BJP and the sangh parivar stood isolated, she said. While the BJP was trying to get sympathy by projecting that they were denied their chance to come to power, incidents like this showed that they deserved none, Ms. Karat said and sought immediate arrest of those behind the attack. Mr. Nair’s wife, Rajamma, who was threatened at knifepoint and was alone when the house was ransacked, said the police dogs traced the culprits’ track to an RSS office at Ramachandrapura. G.V. Srirama Reddy, former MLA, said that rather than carrying the investigation forward on this specific lead, the police were busy making inquiries in Kannur, Kerala, over Mr. Nair’s credentials. He said party leaders would meet Governor Rameshwar Thakur soon to demand that the investigation be speeded up.
