Anura Bandaranaike COLOMBO: Anura Bandaranaike, senior Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) leader who passed away on Sunday, was an erudite and veteran parliamentarian and was known as the “Crown Prince.” Born on February 15, 1949, Mr. Bandaranaike’s parents, S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike and Sirimao Bandaranaike, were Prime Ministers. His sister, Chandrika Kumaratunga, became the first woman President of the country. Elected to Parliament at the age of 27 in 1977, he was the Leader of the Opposition from 1983 to 88. He was elected the Speaker of Parliament in 2000.
