KOCHI: Representatives of the Kerala State Small Industries Association said here on Saturday that the Forest Minister had taken steps to resolve issues related to the issue of no-objection certificates to the timber-based industry in the State. In a communication, Damodar Avanoor, general secretary of the association, said that the Minister had given this assurance at the talks held in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. He said that efforts would be made to resolve the issues being faced by timber-based industrial units that were started before 2000. Problems faced by about 1,000 units would be solved, with this move, he said. Mr. Avanoor said that the Minister had also agreed to consider the issues related to the industrial units formed after 2002 and operating from a distance of five kilometres from the forest border. He said that the Forest Department would also collect data regarding the timber-based industrial units in the State. It would be submitted before the Central empowered committee for getting relief to thousands employed in timber units here, the release said.
