NEW DELHI: To encourage Delhiites to take a pledge to drive soberly this Holi, the Community Against Drunken Driving (CADD) is organising a five-day community walk against drunken driving in the Capital beginning Monday. The special initiative titled “Strides for Change; Community Walk Campaign” will be launched at Lodhi Garden at 8 a.m. by CADD’s Prince Singhal. The walk for a cause will see the participation of actors Pooja Bedi and Mukul Dev. According to Prince Singhal, the festival of colours is also associated with drinking after which some people even drive. “Many people die across the country on Holi day due to drunken driving, making the festival one of the deadliest ones in terms of road deaths. The Capital has also witnessed a growing number of drunken driving accidents during Holi,” added the social activist. While on March 18, the community walk will start from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gate Park at 5-30 p.m., the walk will start from Nehru Park the next day at the same time. On March 20, the community walk will begin at Deer Park at 5-30 p.m. and the walk for a cause will start at India Gate the next day at the same time. Stating that the walk was aimed at inculcating a sense of responsibility within people so that they drive sensibly on the day of festivity, Mr. Singhal said: “If we have to fight drunk driving then it is important for every individual to make a contribution as it is a community problem.”
