“The office is not provided with the requisite financial powers” MADURAI: A plea to improve the staff strength of the passport office here to facilitate speedy disposal of applications has been made by the former Member of Parliament, A.G.S. Rambabu. In a representation made to the Union Minister for External Affairs, Pranab Mukherjee, Mr. Rambabu said that the Madurai Regional Passport office, which received around 600 applications every day, had several shortcomings. InadequateThe exiting staff strength was inadequate, resulting in delay in disposal of applications. He also said that the office was not provided with the requisite financial powers and was dependent on Tiruchi office, which again delayed disposal of applications. Necessary measuresThe former MP appealed to the Union Minister to direct the authorities concerned to take measures that would result in expeditious disposal of applications.
