ALAPPUZHA: The Union government has received intelligence reports that some sympathisers of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in certain “small” pockets of Kerala and Tamil Nadu were extending support to the outfit in various forms. Both the States have been asked to monitor their activities. National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan told this to television channels during a visit to the Sree Krishna Temple at Ambalapuzha, near here, on Sunday. He said the reports were passed on to the intelligence agencies in Kerala and Tamil Nadu . They were directed that appropriate action should be taken. Security upDefence Minister A.K. Antony and Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said recently that security along the Kerala coast was stepped up. This was following reports that there was a possibility of some extremist forces, including the LTTE, infiltrating the coast for various reasons, including shelter and supplies. Incidentally, the Kerala and Tamil Nadu police, in a joint operation, seized a boat at Munnambam in Vypeen near Kochi, which was being allegedly built for the LTTE. Investigations were on into the case. Vessel’s disappearanceMr. Narayanan said investigations were on into the disappearance of a cargo vessel, mv Rezzak, which reportedly went missing off the Turkish coast on February 18. He said the Union government suspected that the vessel could have sunk.
