SC women beaten up for breaching ‘madi’

ANANTAPUR: Two women belonging to a Scheduled Caste community were allegedly beaten up by persons belonging to another community in Hamali Colony here on Sunday for breaching the ‘madi’ of women belonging to their community at a drinking water supply tanker.

According to Pushpavathi and Chandrakala, the two women who were allegedly beaten up, they went to fetch drinking water from a tanker arranged by the municipal corporation as a routine.

Women belonging to all communities living in the locality also reached the tanker which supplies water on alternative days.

They were beaten up by Hari and Achary after their women accused the two SC women of touching their pitchers and breaching their ‘madi’.

The two men allegedly slapped them resulting in swelling on their cheeks.

When contacted, the police said they were neither aware of any such incident nor received any complaint.
