BJP begins work on Assembly polls

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday began work in right earnest for the coming Assembly elections by appointing “election in-charges” for four States and setting up a seven-member core group.

While Arun Jaitley has been made in-charge of Karnataka, M. Venkaiah Naidu has been given the charge of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, and Ravi Shankar Prasad will oversee the polls in Chhattisgarh.

Also, the party president Rajnath Singh has constituted a seven-member core group from the election management committee announced earlier.

Mr. Naidu will be the convener of this group with Murli Manohar Joshi, Jaswant Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Mr. Jaitley, Ram Lal and Ananth Kumar as its members.

Mr. Kumar will also function as the secretary of the election management committee and the core group committee.
