Selection not in my hands, says Ganguly

HYDERABAD: Sourav Ganguly doesn’t believe it is the end of the road for him in one-day cricket and stresses that he has not given any serious thoughts to confine himself to only Test cricket.

“All I have to do is to keep trying and decide (about retirement) when the performances stop,” Ganguly said in an interaction after a practice session on the eve of the Deodhar Trophy match against West Zone here on Sunday.

“That is not in my hands. It depends on how the selectors look at and what they think. The priority for me is to keep playing and scoring runs,” he said.

No pressure

Ganguly also refused to believe that he is under any pressure in view of many youngsters coming up with consistent performances.

“I have been playing international cricket for 13 years now. I am used to all these things. In fact, I don’t give any thought to these things. I have my priorities and the best way to be in the business is just keep performing,” he said.

Was he surprised by the number of comebacks he is being forced to make into the Indian team? “I have begun to accept the way things are going. I repeat that there is no pressure on me as such,” Ganguly added.

The former India captain was all praise for Sachin Tendulkar. “His innings in the two finals of the recent CB tri-series against Australia were out of the world. He showed how to win big matches abroad. Tendulkar also showed that there is still room for performances,” Ganguly said. — Principal Correspondent
