CHENNAI: The seventh RMK rolling Trophy inter-engineering cricket tournament, being organised jointly by the RMK and RMD Engineering Colleges, gets underway here on Monday. The final is slated for March 21. The tournament, which had heralded the Twenty20 version of the game even before it became as popular as it is today, had attracted 20 colleges. However, only 16 were chosen on a first-come-first-serve basis, M.R. Jayateerta Rao, Principal, RMK College, said at a press conference here on Saturday. SRM Easwari College of Engineering is the defending champion, while RMK was the runner-up last year. RMK College Chairman, R.S. Munirathinam, said he was happy to note the popularity of the tournament which was being conducted in a well-planned way and with experienced umpires from the TNCA. Prizes galoreHe mentioned the vast number of prizes being arranged in addition to the trophy that the winner will receive. RMK College Vice-Chairman, R.M. Kishore, said that it was the intention of the management to attract colleges from various parts of the State in due course. “We hope to make this tournament open to all colleges and not engineering alone in the years to come,” he said. — Special Correspondent
