Police yet to make breakthrough in Alipur case

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The police are yet to make a breakthrough in the mysterious death of eight-year-old Sanjeev whose charred body was recovered from a field in Alipur this past Thursday.

“Several people have been interrogated and the scene of crime is being combed for clues. A liquor bottle has been recovered from the spot, but there is no major breakthrough. We are awaiting the post-mortem report which is likely to shed more light on the murder,” said a senior police officer.

Half-burnt body

The bizarre murder had come to light around 11 p.m. on Thursday when the family of Sanjeev noticed smoke emanating from a stack of fodder in the fields and found the half-burnt body of the boy in the pile.

The police suspect it to be a case of personal enmity or that the boy could have been sodomised and then killed by some locals for fear of being identified.

The boy was strangulated to death before being set afire, the police said.
