Britain plans a five-fold increase in the amount of money spent aiding “private” nuclear research according to the civil estimates published on March 14. The money will go to financing the National Institute for Research in Nuclear Science now being built “outside the fence” at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell. The institute’s facilities will be available to universities and private individuals carrying out approved nuclear research programmes, an Atomic Energy Authority spokesman said.
