Krishna to concentrate on campaigning in rural areas

ON HOME TURF: The former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, who resigned as Governor of Maharashtra to return to State politics, received a rousing welcome at Bangalore airport on Monday.

BANGALORE: The senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, who resigned as Governor of Maharashtra in order to re-join State politics, was given a rousing welcome at the Bangalore airport and at his Sadashivanagar residence by party leaders, workers and people from the old Mysore area.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjuna Kharge welcomed Mr. Krishna at his residence.

The former Chief Minister, who addressed a gathering of party workers at the airport here, said that it was the duty of every Congressman to work for bringing the party back to power in the State.

Later, Mr. Krishna told presspersons that he would now concentrate his campaign in villages instead of urban areas.

Prominent among the leaders who garlanded Mr. Krishna at the airport were the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, the former Ministers in his Cabinet such as A. Krishnappa and D.K. Shiva Kumar. At his residence, the Congress leaders, including G. Parameshwar, T.B. Jayachandra, the former KPCC President Allum Veerabhadrappa, and the Legislative Council Chairman B.L.Shankar, were present.

The former Union Minister and a former President of Janata Dal State unit, C.M.Ibrahim, who was yet to join the Congress, and the former legislators such as D.C. Thammanna and Sudhakar and the former Koppal MP Virupakshappa met Mr. Krishna at his residence.
