Environment awareness procession

School children in Sethubavachathiram near Pattukottai in Thanjavur district took out a procession to create awareness of environment protection at Sethubavachathiram recently.

The highlight was an appeal to people not to pollute air and water. Hundreds of school students participated in the rally organised by Divya Voluntary Organisation and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.

The students raised slogans for keeping the environment clean and working towards making the earth pollution-free.

They highlighted the dangers like sea level rising, climate change, melting of snow-clad mountains and drying up of rivers.

They also explained about the diseases that might affect people when unprotected water is consumed.

Mupperum Vizha held

Mupperum Vizha was held at the Government Girls High School, Arimalam in Pudukottai district recently. S. L. Muthuchellappa Chettiar presided.

Rama Subburam, MLA, the chief guest, gave away prizes to the winners of various literary competitions.

M. Ramamoorthy, Sub-Inspector of Police, distributed prizes to the winners of the sports meet and planted a sapling besides handing over saplings to the convener, Green Corps unit of the school, V. Jabamalai.

Aranthangi Education District Green Corps convener A. Arangan presented a sapling to R. Abhinaya who stood first in SSLC public examinations held last year. School headmaster V. R. Vellaichami presented the annual report and secretary of Parent-Teachers’ Association M. Kumaresan and others offered felicitations.

Bharani school wins gymnastics medals

The students of Bharani Park Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karur, performed exceedingly well at the State Gymnastics Championship conducted by Tamil Nadu Gymnastics Association in Chennai recently. In the boys’ section, R.M. Anand won silver in vault table and bronze each in pommel horse and parallel bars.

T. Dinesh Kumar and Praveen won bronze in horizontal bar and floor exercise events respectively. In the girls’ category, B. Vishali won five silver and V. Sindhya won bronze in vault table.

Principal C. Ramasubramanian, managing trustee S. Mohanarangan, physical education teachers P. Durai, Vinoth and Latha commended the students.
