BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to restore trust of the visiting Japanese nationals in the ‘tourist-friendly state’ of Orissa, Tourism Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, on Sunday, invited them to revisit Konark. He has also announced to initiate stern action against the erring guides who ’harassed’ the visitors. It may be recalled that six women travellers from Japanwere at Konark for a visit to the Sun Temple where a guide along with a few of his colleagues ‘demanded’ money from the team that resulted in heated arguments. The visitors preferred to go back without going round the temple and the matter was reported to the Puri District Collector later on. The Minister spoke to the tourists over telephone on Sunday, who are at Gaya. “The government decided to invite the foreigners as they should not carry a poor impression of the State that is known for its hospitality” states Mr. Mishra. Meanwhile, city police nabbed the truck driver, who allegedly harassing the two tourists from Switzerland - Monika Kessler and her brother Nikalus Kessler - after causing a road accident and damaging the vehicle in which they were travelling. The issue rocked the State Assembly as the ruling Biju Janata Dal’s Anant Das demanded steps to prevent such incidents that cause damage to the State’s image.
