Encroachments to be removed

Special Correspondent

PUDUKOTTAI: All steps will be taken for the peaceful conduct of the annual car festival of the Narthamalai Sri Muthumariamman Temple scheduled on April 7.

A meeting of the officials of the various government departments to discuss the precautionary measures to be taken in connection with the festival was held here on Saturday. Revenue Divisional Officer Mohan presided over the meeting.

The police will provide adequate protection in Narthamalai and the surrounding areas on the festival days.

Tight security

A police force comprising five Inspectors, 44 constables and equal number of Home Guards along with women police personnel will be posted. A temporary police station will also be set up and it will function with adequate police personnel.

The fire and rescue service department will station a couple of fire fighting units and an ambulance in the temple vicinity.

The owners of the eateries and other stalls that will come up will not be allowed to use stoves for preparing the eatables.

All encroachments will be removed from the temple car streets and 16 pillar mandapam areas. A special medical team comprising doctors from Keeranur Government Hospital and Kaverynagar Primary Health Centre will be present at the village round the clock. About half a dozen sanitary inspectors will be pressed into service for maintaining health and hygiene.

A special initiative will be taken for providing potable drinking water to the devotees visiting the temple. All six overhead water tanks will be cleaned prior to the festival. Chlorine will be added to the local tank water. Steps have also be taken to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Narthamalai and surrounding areas. A temporary bus stand will also be set up and the road leading to Narthamalai from Pudukottai national highway will be relaid.

Divisional Fire Officer P. Nandagopalan, Assistant Divisional Engineer, Highways, M. Kesavan and Regional Transport Officer P. Gurusamy participated.
