It is a case of murder: police

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Initially, it looked as a case of unnatural death of a game parlour owner. However, the suspicion of the police that it was a “murder for money”, was proved in the investigation.

The Central Crime Branch police arrested two persons allegedly involved in the murder of 57-year-old Vinod Kumar, who owned a game parlour on Brigade Road.

Kumar was found in an unconscious state inside a room at Imperial Hotel on March 1. He died soon after he was taken to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), N.D. Mulla, said the police had initially registered the case as one of unnatural death.” But the injuries found on Kumar’s body indicated the possibility of an assault.

“Our suspicion got credence as the autopsy report did not reveal any reason to term the death as unnatural,” he said.

Then the case was treated as that of “a murder” and a CCB police team was asked to investigate it. During the investigation it was found that Kumar, who was into gambling, had borrowed around Rs. 14 lakh from Harish (25) of Sanjay Nagar and had only returned Rs. 7 lakh. Kumar had failed to return the balance amount despite repeated requests by Harish, it was found.

On the night of February 29, Kumar called Harish to the room of the hotel where he was staying since 40 days and assured him of returning the money.

The police said Harish came to the room along with Srinivas (27), who is accused in many cases of dacoities and murders.

Harish and Srinivas assaulted Kumar, which led to his death in Bowring Hospital, the police said.

The CCB police team arrested Harish and Srinivas and produced them before the jurisdictional magistrate on Saturday. T

he Commissioner of Police, Neelam Achuta Rao, has appreciated the work of the CCB team.
