Cold rolling mill inaugurated

Staff Correspondent

TORANAGAL (BELLARY DISTRICT): The cold rolling mill (CRM) complex of JSW Steel Ltd. was inaugurated by J.J. Irani, Director of Tata Sons Ltd., here on Monday.

The unit has a production capacity of one million tonnes a year, and has been equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The CRM, which is a value-addition process, will cater to the booming automobile and auto component industry. It will act as a catalyst for attracting further investments in this sector in southern India, Managing Director of JSW Steels Sajjan Jindal said. Built at a cost of Rs. 1,088 crore in a record time of 22 months, the CRM facility is a forward integration of the existing facilities, where hot rolled coils are cold-rolled to produce high-end cold-rolled sheets. This will cater to the upper segment of the steel market including industrial applications, automobile bodies and components, white goods, electrical panels, drums and barrels, furniture, electrical stampings, packaging and the like.

Mr. Irani said that the future belonged to those who were quick to seize opportunities and translate them into reality.

He complimented Mr. Sajjan Jindal for his commitment and determination and on emerging a successful producer of quality steel. “The risk-taking attitude is very important and helps turn the problems into success,” he said and added

that challenges should also be met with passion. He also appreciated the JSW for taking care of the community around the plant and recalled that Jamshedji Tata was the first to take the initiative in this regard when he set up the steel plant. “Every industry has the responsibility of developing the community in which it resides and strive hard to raise the living standards of the people,” he said.
