Bihar Govt. warns commercial banks


Will withdraw its deposits if they fail to meet the distribution target of kisan credit cards


Patna: Bihar’s NDA Government has warned the commercial banks of withdrawing its deposits if they fail to improve the credit deposit ratio and fulfil the target of distribution of Kisan Credit Cards among the farmers, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said. “We have warned the commercial banks of taking our deposits back if they fail to improve the credit deposit ratio and attain the target of distribution of Kisan Credit Cards,” Mr. Modi said while replying to a question in the State Assembly.

Mr. Modi said according to the information received from the State-level Bankers’ Committee, it was targeted to distribute credit cards among 6.88 lakh farmers during the financial year 2007-08.

He said the banks had sanctioned the Kisan Credit Cards for 3,10,702 applicants by December, 2007. “The State Bankers’ Committee which met recently evolved an action plan to make available the Kisan Credit Cards to cent per cent farmers in eight districts-- Gaya, Purnia, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, West Champaran, Rohtas, Khagaria and Samastipur by 2008-09,” he said. -- PTI
