DSS to hold dharna on March 26

Bangalore: The Karnataka State Dalit Sangharsh Samiti will hold dharnas in all district centres on March 26 demanding that educational initiatives and land rights be prioritised while making a department-wise break-up of budgetary allocations for schemes to benefit the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, DSS State convener Lakshminarayan Nagavara said these were crucially linked to livelihood and dignity and needed to be given special thrust. He also demanded that all SC/ST-related schemes be handled through a single-window agency and the role of politicians be minimised in identifying beneficiaries. Loans taken by Dalits from cooperative societies and the Dr. B.R. Ambekdar Development Corporation should be waived.
