Work on Guruvayur Tanur line will be started Railways, Kollam Corporation agree on underpass land THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will hold discussions on the demand made by members of the Assembly for changing the alignment of the proposed Sabari railway line in Kottayam district. At the same time, land acquisition for the line in Ernakulam district will continue. This was decided at a conference of Railway authorities and officials of the State government, convened to solve various issues related to railway development in the State. The conference, presided over by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar, resolved that the work on the Sabari line should be taken up urgently. Guruvayur lineWork on the first seven kilometres of the proposed Guruvayur-Tanur line will be started. As there is a dispute regarding the remaining portions in Malappuram district, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will discuss the matter with Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed. Officials of the Railways and the Kollam city Corporation has agreed to sort out issues on handing over of land from the T.M. Varghese Park in Kollam to the Railways and Railway land at Chinnakkada to the Corporation for building an underpass. OverbridgesThe State government will make a request for special sanction for construction of railway overbridges at Chirayinkizhu and Caritas in Kottayam. The Railway authorities and member of the Assembly Anathalavattom Anandan will visit Varkala to examine the proposal for a link road to Varkala railway station. Doubling workDiscussions would be held among railway authorities, people’s representatives and others concerned regarding public apprehensions about land acquisition for doubling of the railway line near Kottayam railway station after abandoning two tunnels there, an official release said.
