Mission accomplished: Argul Rajaram Gutpa lift irrigation scheme to be dedicated to farmers by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in Nizamabad district on Tuesday.

UMMEDA (NIZAMABAD Dt.): The long-awaited Argul Rajaram Gutpa lift irrigation scheme is all set to be dedicated to farmers by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Ummeda village of Nandipet mandal on Tuesday.

It may be mentioned here that this is the second irrigation project to have been completed under the Government’s ambitious Jalayagnam in the district and also in the Telangana region.

The project completed at a cost of Rs.204 crore constructing the first lift at this village on the bank of the Godavari river will benefit 53 villages of Dichpally, Armoor and Balkonda Assembly constituencies. It was built to provide irrigation water to 38,792 acres in the tail end ayacut of the Nizam Sagar Project.

With this it is expected that the gap ayacut of the NSP will get strengthened. The LI scheme works commenced on February 18, 2005 and was originally scheduled to be completed in 12 months.

As per the revised schedule it was to be dedicated by May 31, 2007.

However, it was delayed by 24 months. The project was jointly constructed by Kirloskar, IHP, BRC, Taher Ali and Koya Companies.

To supply water two pump houses were built one at Ummeda, the zero point and another at Andhra Nagar in Makloor mandal.

At Ummeda water is lifted from the Godavari to a height of 69.32 metre to release into 11.29 pressure main. Thereupon it will run in 9.85 km long gravity canal.
